Albany State University and Flint RiverQuarium Host Artesian City Rendezvous

Albany State University (ASU) has partnered with the Flint RiverQuarium to host an annual event to help monitor water quality in the Flint River watershed while exploring Albany and the surrounding areas. The Inaugural Artesian City Rendezvous will take place on Saturday, March 12 at the Flint RiverQuarium from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The campus community and members of the Albany community are invited to attend.

Participants will enjoy a day outside, learn how to collect water samples, watch the laboratory process once samples are collected and hopefully discover a new favorite water feature in the community. All ages are welcomed and encouraged to participate

After introduction and training, participants will collect samples from dozens of sites in and around the city. Transportation to and from the site will not be provided. Once the samples have been collected, participants are invited to a free lunch and the opportunity to observe volunteers processing the samples.

“This event will provide exposure to community members in Water Quality Analysis and its importance in helping to maintain clean waterways.  Students who are currently enrolled in biology and chemistry will learn valuable lab and research skills, along with additional opportunities,” said Lauren Mueller, Interim Director of ACAD Planning.

The Artesian City Rendezvous will be an annual event and part of an on-going collective effort to monitor the water quality in the Albany area.
